Deaf & Deaf/Blind Awareness Training
ISS will be delivering an Accredited Deaf and Deaf/Blind Awareness training.
This course is suitable for those who
- wish to acquire basic knowledge of how deafness and deafblindness affect communication;
- wish to acquire basic skills to facilitate basic communication with deaf people.
- would like to further their career
To achieve the full Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness and Communication, learners are required
to achieve 2 units.
This is an accredited course, and the qualification is designed to equip the student with a basic knowledge of Deaf and Deafblind people. This includes the full range of Deafness i.e. Deaf, deafened, deafblind and Hard of hearing (HOH).
The student does not require any previous experience or knowledge
There are 2 units to this course, and each can be achieved separately

Acceptable terminology
Society’s attitude towards deafness,
How to avoid difficulties that affect deaf and deafblind people’s access to communication

The national organisations that work with deaf and deafblind people
T101, this is a practical unit - Communication tactics with deaf and deafblind people
Topics covered:
Basic skills for communicating with deaf or deafblind people
Understanding of how and when a range of tactics can be used to communicate with deaf
and deafblind people.
